How this tool works
Generate a standards-shaped barcode for internal labels or an identifier you are authorised to use. Retail numbering allocation is separate from drawing the symbol.
Inputs and definitions
Choose a format and enter its value. For EAN-13 enter twelve digits, or thirteen including a valid check digit; UPC-A accepts eleven or twelve.
Methodology
Retail formats calculate the final modulo-10 check digit using alternating weights of three and one. Code 128 accepts printable ASCII. The output is vector SVG.
Assumptions
The barcode value is supplied by the user. The generator does not allocate GTINs, register products, or verify ownership of an identifier.
Worked examples
Worked example
The twelve-digit EAN stem 400638133393 receives check digit 1 and becomes 4006381333931.

Limitations and common mistakes
A scannable symbol does not make an identifier valid for a retailer or supply chain. Confirm size, quiet zones, print quality, and registration requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Does this allocate a retail number?
No. Obtain identifiers from the appropriate issuing organisation.
Can it correct a wrong check digit?
It rejects the value so you can verify the source.
Why use SVG?
Vector output remains sharp when resized within the standard’s dimensional rules.
