Image resizer and compressor

Resize a JPEG, PNG or WebP image, choose output quality and download the result. Review the resulting dimensions and file size before saving.

Works locally in your browser

How this tool works

Prepare a smaller raster image without uploading the original. Decoding, drawing, encoding, preview state, and download all stay in the current browser.

Inputs and definitions

Choose one JPEG, PNG, or WebP file up to 25 MB, set output dimensions, format, and quality, then process and download the result.

Methodology

The browser decodes orientation-aware pixels, draws them to a bounded canvas, and encodes the canvas in the selected format. Object resources are released after use.

Assumptions

Quality settings are codec-specific and are not comparable percentages of visual fidelity. PNG may ignore lossy quality settings and can be larger than JPEG or WebP.

Worked examples

Worked example

A 2400 by 1600 JPEG resized to 1200 by 800 is redrawn at one quarter of the pixel count before JPEG encoding.

  1. Enter and review

Choose one JPEG, PNG, or WebP file up to 25 MB, set output dimensions, format, and quality, then process and download the result.

  2. Process locally

Validation example

The same workflow is repeated with a second valid input to confirm image resizer and compressor behavior.

  1. Enter and review

Choose one JPEG, PNG, or WebP file up to 25 MB, set output dimensions, format, and quality, then process and download the result.

  2. Process locally

The browser decodes orientation-aware pixels, draws them to a bounded canvas, and encodes the canvas in the selected format. Object resources are released after use.

The output remains local and follows the documented validation and limitation rules.

Limitations and common mistakes

SVG is rejected. Metadata is not preserved, animated images become a single frame, and browser codec support can vary. The tool reports when output is not smaller.

Frequently asked questions

Are image bytes uploaded?

No. Processing uses local browser APIs.

Why did the file get larger?

Dimensions, format, content, and codec behavior can make re-encoding larger.

Is EXIF metadata retained?

No. Canvas output intentionally contains rendered pixels rather than original metadata.
